What is nirāmaya all about?

nirāmaya began with the intention of sharing the joy of making and using my own all-natural products from pure ingredients. All of the products I sell on this website I have used. I have made a commitment that I will never sell any product that I have not used myself.

What’s with the name nirāmaya? nirāmaya is a Sanskrit word that means “untainted and pure”. When I started to think about what I wanted to call my company, I thought of calling it “Pure and Simple”. But friends and colleagues suggested that whatever I called my company, the name needed to be more distinctive. So I turned to Sanskrit for some inspiration, given I have an affinity for Sanskrit. It didn’t take long to narrow my search for possible name that meant ‘purity’, and nirāmaya rose to the top of the list.

My journey to making these all-natural products began in 2019, when I was introduced to essential oils. I had heard a lot about essential oils, most notably the healing and natural-medicine qualities of essential oils. Shortly after I began to use essential oils, I became a lifestyle advocate. I used them, and continue to use them, daily through diffusion and topical application. I will occasionally use essential oils in cooking.

It didn’t take long for me to discover new and interesting ways to use essential oils. I discovered that essential oils are used in many commercial personal care products, like shampoo, toothpaste, and body creams, to name a few. However, when I looked into these commercial products, I discovered the majority of the essential oils that were used in these products were synthetic and possessed no medicinal or healing benefits. In addition, the chemical nature of the essential oils and other ingredients in the personal care products started to become of concern to me.

For example, after many years of using a very popular commercial toothpaste and mouthwash, I started to develop an allergic-like reaction to the products. My gums would swell and mouth ulcers would form. I looked for alternatives to these products and found some. But I couldn’t pronounce half of the ingredients on the product containers. I began to wonder what opportunities there were to create all-natural products with pure and simple ingredients—simple ingredients that we are all familiar with.

So the first all-natural products I made were toothpaste and mouthwash. The toothpaste was made from equal parts of baking soda and coconut oil. By adding some essential oils (peppermint, spearmint, eucalyptus and tea tree), I was able to make a very refreshing toothpaste that left my teeth deep cleaned. When I discovered that citrus essential oils work well to remove stains on teeth, I started to add lemon and lime essential oils to my recipe and discovered that it worked very well to remove stains and keep my teeth white. Mouthwash was easy to make—water and baking soda, and some peppermint, spearmint, and tea tree oils. The result? My teeth and mouth are cleaner than ever and I no longer have stains or plaque buildup! Lastly, the allergic reactions have stopped—no more swelling of my gums or mouth ulcers.

There are many other stories I could share, and I do so on this website’s blog, but suffice to say, I have experienced the joy and, sometimes, wonderment at the magnificence of these products. All of them just feel good to use. Many of them make me feel pampered! Many of them work better than standard, store-bought products you get off the shelf at your local pharmacy or grocery store.

All of the products are handmade fresh, in small batches. There is no factory production involved. All the ingredients are as pure as I can source. Most ingredients are organic; others are as pure as I can find on the open market.

As careful as I have been to source ingredients that are pure and healthy, caution should be taken when introducing any new product to your body. Please read the product labels for safety information prior to use. Of particular note is the caution that any person who is pregnant or nursing a child should not use these products. The essential oil content of the products make it necessary to offer this caution. Even the most innocuous of essential oils (like Lavender) should be used with caution if you are pregnant or nursing a child. So, please, exercise caution with any product you decide to use on your body.

If you have any comments about the products offered on this website, please, reach out and let me know what you think. I’m always interested in your feedback. Lastly, I take great joy in making these products for you. Thank you for welcoming me into your home and heart. May you enjoy these products as much as I have enjoyed making them for you.
