Would you like to make your own, all-natural sunscreen? Here’s are some recipes for you to try.
Regular Formula
- 1/3 cup organic coconut oil
- 1/3 cup organic shea butter
- 2 tbsp organic sweet almond oil
- 2 tbsp beeswax
- 2 tbsp zinc oxide powder
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil
- 1 tsp organic carrot seed essential oil
- 15 drops organic peppermint essential oil
Plus Formula (to repel insects)
- 1/3 cup organic coconut oil
- 1/3 cup organic shea butter
- 2 tbsp organic sweet almond oil
- 2 tbsp beeswax
- 2 tbsp zinc oxide powder
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil
- 1 tsp organic carrot seed essential oil
- 10 drops organic citronella essential oil
- 10 drops organic basil essential oil
- Measure out coconut oil and shea butter in a bowl.
- Melt beeswax in double boiler.
- Add sweet almond oil and vitamin E oil to melted beeswax, stirring to combine until blended with beeswax.
- Add shea butter and coconut oil to melted beeswax mixture, stirring to combine until melted/blended with beeswax mixture.
- Remove from heat and let cool until mixture just starts to congeal.
- Carefully add zinc oxide powder, taking care to cover your nose and mouth so you don’t inhale the dust. Mix thoroughly.
- Cool mixture in fridge for 15-30 minutes, until it starts to set.
- Remove from fridge and, using an electric mixer, beat the mixture for 5-10 minutes.
- Add carrot seed oil and other essential oils.
- Continue beating until light and fluffy (another 5 minutes)
- Pour/spoon mixture into desired tin or glass jar with lid.
Please note that you may like to scent your sunscreen with different essential oils, or combinations of essential oils.
