All of the nirāmaya products possess therapeutic qualities. The word therapeutic congers up many images. It also gives rise to many definitions. For the purposes of this article, I use the word therapeutic to mean ‘relating to healing’ or ‘treatment’. This article will briefly review each of the nirāmaya products and the therapeutic benefits each one offers.

Beard Oil: If you have a beard, you know it can take some work to keep it well groomed. Depending on your beard hair type, a lot of care can go in to maintaining your beard. I tend to keep my beard short in the summer months, but I let it grow out a little in the winter months. Regardless of the time of year, I would often experience itchy skin under my beard. In the winter months when my beard is longer, my whiskers would get dry and wiry. The nirāmaya all-natural beard oil helps to solve both these problems. The base of the nirāmaya beard oil is jojoba oil. Of all the carrier oils, jojoba oil most closely resembles the natural sebum of the skin. Sebum coats, moisturizes, and protects the skin. The jojoba oil also helps to keep the beard hair moisturized and prevents it from drying out. The predominant scent of the nirāmaya beard oil is provided by organic clove bud essential oil. Of the many qualities of clove bud oil, it is well known for its uplifting and enlivening scent.

Body Cream: Our all-natural body cream is a particularly soothing and healing blend that leaves your skin feeling silky smooth and moisturized. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties. Using shea butter on your body can condition, tone, and soothe your skin. The fat in cocoa butter forms a protective barrier over skin to hold in moisture. Cocoa butter is also rich in natural plant compounds called phytochemicals. These substances may improve blood flow to the skin and slow skin aging by protecting against damage from the sun's harmful UV rays. Coconut oil also helps bolster your skin's protective barrier layer, maintaining moisture and keeping skin supple and hydrated. Coconut oil also can help to reduce inflammation and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for irritated, chafed skin. Lavender essential oil is well known for its versatile therapeutic properties. In addition to its calming influence, lavender is well known as an effective essential oil to nurture inspiration, reduce stress, serve as an anti-inflammatory, and sooth sore muscles. For some women, lavender is known to effectively sooth menstrual cramps.

Body Wash: Much like hand soap, I never thought much about what I used to wash my body with. If it produced suds, I figured it was doing its job! But like so many commercial soap products, it not only washes away the natural sebum of the skin, but it dries out the skin. The nirāmaya all-natural body wash gently cleans and moisturizes your skin at the same time, without leaving any greasy residue. This product supports the body’s own oil production instead of removing the body’s natural oils. The organic peppermint oil effectively removes toxic congestion (i.e., blackheads and acne) in the skin and can relieve itching, inflammation, and other skin irritation. The lime and rosemary oils are well known as effective astringents and can help repair sagging skin and may also ease puffiness and swelling as well. The jojoba and Vitamin E oils help to keep the skin moisturized, without feeling greasy.

Face Cream: Shea butter and coconut oil are the foundation of the nirāmaya all-natural face cream. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties. Using shea butter on your body can condition, tone, and soothe your skin. Coconut oil also helps bolster your skin's protective barrier layer, maintaining moisture and keeping skin supple and hydrated. Coconut oil also can help to reduce inflammation and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for irritated, chafed skin. Frankincense and lavender essential oils are two of the most prized oils for the skin. Frankincense oil gives new life to ageing skin and reputedly smooths out wrinkles. As a tonic for the skin, frankincense’s astringent properties may also help balance oily conditions. Lavender oil promotes growth of new cells and has a balancing action on the sebum of the skin. It has a pronounced healing effect on burns and sunburn and is helpful in cases of acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Foot Cream: The nirāmaya all-natural foot cream is formulated to help you get a restful and peaceful sleep. This is made possible with a combination of organic vetiver, lavender, and chamomile essential oils. Each of these oils on their own have a calming quality that also serves to ease anxiety, tension, anger, and fear. The combination of all three essential oils in this foot cream make it ideal as a nighttime potent. The natural antiseptic, antiviral, and antibacterial qualities of organic eucalyptus essential oil helps to cleanse your feet. I and customers have found this formula to be a particularly soothing blend that leaves the feet feeling silky smooth and moisturized. If applied at night, I have found this smooth and moisturized sensation will last well into the following day. Customers have reported, and I have personally experienced, this foot cream leaves the skin and toenails with a sheen. This sheen effect helps to improve the appearance of toenail fungal infections. Some customers have also experienced relief from their chronic foot pain using this cream.

Hair Gel: Sometimes my hair seems to have it’s own mind and just doesn’t want to behave! When this happens, hair gel or wax is a useful addition to the toiletries cabinet. I’ve used many commercial products over the years and some have been very good. But like so many commercial products, the long list of unpronounceable ingredients is off-putting and concerning. If I can’t pronounce the name of an ingredient, do I really want to put it on my body? The nirāmaya all-natural hair gel is made from three simple ingredients: beeswax, shea butter, and jojoba oil. The beeswax gives the hair gel its hold. The shea butter and jojoba oil give the hair gel a nice, smooth consistency and help to moisturize the hair while keeping it styled. One of the nice things about this product is that it does hold throughout the entire day, whereas my experience has been that many commercial products lose their hold as the day unfolds (no pun intended).

Hand Soap: I never used to think much about the soap I used to wash my hands. If it lathered up, cleaned my hands, and had a reasonable scent associated with it, I would use it. It was when my hands would be left dry and cracked from washing them, that I began to think differently about what I used to wash my hands. In the winter months, when the air tended to be drier, my hands would regularly feel dry and cracked. I would then have to turn to moisturizing cream to help stop the skin from drying out. The nirāmaya all-natural hand soap stopped this cycle. The combination of pure liquid castile soap and organic jojoba oil give this hand soap a moisturizing quality. My hands do not feel dry after use. Nor do they feel greasy. The peppermint hand soap is scented with organic peppermint essential oil which gives the hand soap an invigorating scent. The citrus hand soap is scented with a mix of lemon, lemongrass, and grapefruit organic essential oils that provides an uplifting and refreshing aroma.

Lip Balm: The niramaya all-natural lip balm is a soothing balm for your lips. Peppermint essential oil has many therapeutic benefits. Peppermint oil has a dual action of cooling the skin when hot and warming the skin when cold. Peppermint oil is effective in removing toxic congestion in the skin, relieving itching and inflammation, and also softens skin.

Shampoo: The nirāmaya all-natural shampoo was a wonderful discovery for me. Early in life I experienced dandruff. Later in life I developed an acne condition on my scalp. The acne was coupled with the development of blackheads around my hairline. In addition to gently and effectively cleaning my hair, the nirāmaya all-natural shampoo has prevented dandruff buildup and has significantly reduced both the acne on my scalp and blackheads around my hairline. As stated above, the organic peppermint oil effectively removes toxic congestion (i.e., blackheads and acne) in the skin and can relieve itching, inflammation, and other skin irritation. The rosemary oil is known to be an effective astringent and helps to repair sagging skin and may also ease puffiness and swelling as well. The jojoba and vitamin E oils help moisturize my hair and keep it soft, at the same time as moisturizing my scalp and helping to prevent dandruff.

Shave Cream: When I used popular commercial brands of shave cream, I would regularly nick and cut my face. Ever since I began using the nirāmaya all-natural shave cream, the frequency and severity of nicks and cuts has dramatically reduced. I used to have one particular area on my neck that would consistently get nicked when I used store-bought shave creams. But ever since I used this all-natural product, the problem area has healed completely and no longer gets irritated. The combination of organic shea butter, organic coconut oil, and organic jojoba oil allow the blades to glide gently over my skin. The organic tea tree essential oil is very effective at treating any skin irritation, cuts, or scrapes. The organic rosemary essential oil is an effective analgesic and also serves to reduce pain from skin abrasion.

Toothpaste: After many years of using a very popular commercial toothpaste, I started to develop an allergic-like reaction to the product. My gums would swell and mouth ulcers would form. I looked for alternatives to this product and found some. But I couldn’t pronounce half of the ingredients on the product label. I began to wonder what opportunities there were to create an all-natural product with pure and simple ingredients. The nirāmaya all-natural toothpaste is made from equal parts of baking soda and coconut oil. By adding some organic essential oils (peppermint, spearmint, eucalyptus, tea tree, and lemon), I am able to make a very refreshing toothpaste that leaves my teeth deep cleaned. When I discovered that citrus essential oils work well to remove stains on teeth, I started to add lemon and lime essential oils to my recipe and discovered that it worked very well to remove stains and keep my teeth white. The result? My teeth and mouth are cleaner than ever and I have significantly reduced stains or plaque buildup! Lastly, the allergic reactions have stopped—no more swelling of my gums or mouth ulcers. Eucalyptus oil is used because it is a natural antiseptic, antiviral, and bacteriacide. Tea tree oil is also an effective antibacterial and antiviral agent. Eucalyptus and tea tree essential oils are effective at treating and preventing both mouth ulcers and cold sores. In addition to being an effective antiviral and antibacterial agent, the peppermint and spearmint essential oils are used in the toothpaste because they both offer an enlivening and refreshing scent.

All of the nirāmaya products not only do their intended job, but they offer many therapeutic benefits. Not only do they feel good on the body, but they help to support and maintain the body’s own natural functions.
